Entry #7 - #Hashtag

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know for myself I had to cut mine short due to working, and the people destroyed the store. It was an awful way to end the night or I should say morning because I was there until 4 a.m. on Friday. I did make a butt load of money so #blessed. Yikes, the hashtag... Should it still be around? Or even where did it come from and why is it still popular????

The first time I personally saw a hashtag sign was on the phone. It is actually called a pound sign or so I have been told. I would always call the gift card numbers to see how much was on the card and the robot voice would state, "Please enter the three digit security code located on the back of the card followed by the pound sign." Never was it used for other reasons until now. It has made it's way all around social media and even used to bring about situations. What I mean when I say situations, I mean raising awareness of medical conditions or social matter, like ALS and BlackLivesMatter. Even though we may not have been a part of those movements, but at some point you have used a hashtag or seen one.

When the hashtag first came about it brought awareness for ALS. It was an ice bucket challenge and if you didn't do it you had to donate money for the cause. It was an awesome movement and it was even mentioned in my high school yearbook. Now its used to just say how you feel or thoughts going on in your head, such as #happy #working #uggghhh. Expressing your thoughts in a few words. A lot of the times the hashtag is used on photos letting people know extra comments on it. I know personally I don't use them just because I find them silly and useless? What will happen if I don't say that I'm happy? Will people not believe the smile that is on my face in the picture? Also, the social platforms have been programmed to highlight the hashtag and use it as a link. The link brings the picture to a page where it posts everyone's picture with the same hashtag. Others can see these photos and invade the privacy you thought you had. I find it weird and almost disturbing. I definitely don't want others to see my photos when I say #blessed.

Another way that hashtags are used is to let people know about what is going on in society. People on social platforms use the hashtag to let others know about a problem going on. #Sorrynotsorry is a big one. This is to hate on someone and let the person is hated on that they are not sorry. Another major one is BlackLivesMatter. It is still going on today and it is about how the african american community is feeling as if they are being treated unequally. I am not stating an opinion on the matter, but this hashtag has definitely brought awareness to others on how they feel.

The hashtag has brought attention to the world. It has almost been used as a mission. To let people know how others feel. To bring light to a situation. To even let people know about their feelings. It has been developing and growing as the days go by. I don't know what the future holds or other situations that will form, but I don't think that the hashtag will go away.

Let me know what you guys think on hashtags. Do you use them? Why? And what do they mean to you??? Personally they are ridiculous and useless but that's just me. So go ahead and comment down below on hashtags and don't forget to #CreateSomeEnglish
