Entry #9 - Slanting the Media
Hey everyone! I know I can speak for myself, life is crazy busy! Just got promoted at work so thats causing my hours to have to be more prioritized. It's crazy busy because everyone is shopping out the store. My bank account is going down the toilet because I'm having to pay for my family's Christmas gifts. Then my anxiety is through the roof because of my English course. But, I am happy to write to you guys on here and let it all out.
Speaking of my English 102 class, recently we have been on the subject of medium, or media (for plural). Its more on what power does it or can is possess? Is it strong, weak, or descriptive? Can it change your mind or just inform? And do you even realize that you're being persuaded something? In a few articles and informative writing pieces I have found, I saw myself getting persuaded. Either that or I started to persuade myself. I can't help but to think of all the tweets recently put on Twitter by the President of United States. Is it o.k. for President Trump to use his time on a Social Platform such as Twitter to promote his thinking or his opinion towards someone or something? I am not wanting to go into politics so this isn't about what he is fighting for or what he votes for and against. This is about whether or no this time is spent correctly while in charge of millions if not billions of lives. It has been on the media because he has people watching him almost 24/7 and of course the media will tell the public about the situation. This in itself has been slanted, because the side that the news station wants you to see, is how they will share the situation. There are many different sides to the story.
That is just one instance. There are many other instances and media will portray anything it wants you to see. Body shaming for example, you will see those that go to the extreme one time rather than the organizations that have been fighting it for so long. The only person that will get attention are those that go to extreme to fight for a specific purpose and the media won't show people that have been fighting these topics for a while.
Media picks and choose what exactly you get to see. I still believe that even the government hides information from us. There are many phenomenons that occur around the world. Take aliens for another example. There are hundreds of thousands of pictures and evidence about aliens, if so where are they now? Has the government taken them to area 51???? Does Area 51 even exist? The media holds the key to this information, because if it isn't known to the people then it hasn't been shared at all. Even with my paper all I'm finding are slanted films or information that is almost avoiding the topic of choice.
The media holds lies and maybe 50% truth and 50% lies. You can't believe everything that you read on the internet or on any media for that matter because it probably has been slanted to have a specific opinion without actually stating it and it is hard to find straight information without going to scholarly sources, which can be soooo boring!!!!
Just seeing this media is hard to do any sort of research. I believe in the near future, students will be almost required to do all research in the library again. WIth the hard book covers, that way you know that the information given is not slant, is precise, and accurate. Tell me what you guys think on the information out there or how media is presented. Have a good one and don't forget to create some english!
