Entry #5 - Excuse Me?
Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well. Today I wanted to talk to everyone about this post that I saw on AZCentral. If you don't know what that is it is a news report website that talks about daily news in Arizona. I know most of you might not be in college or even care about school, but just seeing the title I started to get upset.
AZCentral - So as you can see I put the link on here to go to the article where Doug Ducey, Arizona's governor, is talking about how more students in Arizona need to graduate from college. UM WHAT???? Clearly he is talking to majority of the students in high school and in college right now saying graduate! because it will be beneficial to you, in theory yes it can but will it? In reality it will only help the government. What are you trying to say not enough of us are trying? I am sorry that the education system is messed up to where teachers are getting so little pay and so they don't care... College is a free for all (not actually free) and so those that pay to go to college start to struggle because they cram in so much information at once they get overwhelmed and drop out. Not to mention that Arizona is one of the worst states in education. Really! So now you're going to expect even more out of us???
Not to mention that the prices to go to a university is OUTRAGEOUS. I am not willing to spend the rest of my life in student debt. Did you know that majority of the careers you go into will only give you $20,000-$45,000 a year (that's a guesstimate). You will have other stuff to pay for and you won't be able to pay off your student debt. It will be a struggle and so many people live for about 10 years with that debt. Even if you get a degree and you have this debt, you more than likely won't be able to do anything with it. YOu probably won't get the career of your dreams. I know a lot of people want to be business majors, but end up being managers at a McDonald's.... They say you can do so many things with you major of choice but in reality you can't. You can only get that job of your choice if you already have experience or they are desperate for someone to work there.
So when Doug Ducey starts saying that it opens up so many doors, it can but the likelyhood of it happening is very small. Also they are wanting 60% of Arizona's adults to have some sort o degree by 2030... That is a lot of people and you will not force people to go to college... That is just ridiculous. If they reach their goal, they will be able to raise taxes, more jobs will become available and those with bachelor degrees get paid better... These are interesting, but who wants higher taxes???? No one. Who says that there will be more jobs available??? Wouldn't there be the same amount of jobs just more competition for them??? Which is scary because now even if you have the same degree and a million other people who knows who would hire you specifically...
Guys, I am so sorry for ranting but seeing that title was hard. I have been working my butt off just to get an education and now I feel like ripping out my hair because it's stressful and hard to juggle being broke and education... If you guys have a difference of opinion let me know! I want to see what you think and if you believe this is something that Arizona can do... Have a good one, and don't forget to create some english!
