Entry #2 - Halloween Candy

The one time of the year is coming up when it is acceptable for all ages to dress up... Halloween! It's a fun time of year when a daughter gets to be a princess and a son gets to be a ninja turtle. Even an adult dude gets to be a "big baby" or  woman gets to be a sexy nurse... We have been so wrapped up in what to wear, that the candy isn't even on our minds. The candy can ultimately be the scariest part of Halloween, between all the sugar, drugs, and wicked people playing games.

Candy tastes so delicious, but there are so many reasons why it can be so dangerous. People have wicked wicked minds... It's actually disgusting and the candy itself is supposed to be kid friendly...

The candy is so delicious, but LOADED with sugar. That's all it is... sugar. Our bodies need sugar, but in moderation. Guys, letting your kids have every single piece of candy, will allow them to bounce of the walls, literally!! They have such tiny bodies that won't be able to contain the high dosage of sugar, which with lead into a sugar high and a crash... The kids will be on the floor passed out by the time they get home.
A few tips to make sure that your kids don't crash by the end of the night or in the future.
  • Have a small trick or treating bag for candy. That way they can't grab an excess amount of sugar from the neighbors.
  • Allow kids to have candy in moderation. This will allow kids to not throw a fit, but allows them to have a piece of Halloween fun.
  • Carry healthy snacks, that way when they get hungry they can have a healthy alternative rather than eating all the sugar.
  • Also, an awesome way to cut the craving is to have a big meal before trick or treating.
There are also many reasons to be watching what candy is being given out. Personally, my parents parents always stated that if someone handed out homemade carmel apples to NEVER eat them due to people putting razor blades into them. That terrified me as a kid hearing that, imagine being a parent.. I would look at every single piece of whatever and make sure nothing was homemade in the childs candy bag.

Here are some things to watch out this year while your kids are trick or treating.
  • As stated before, watch for anything that isn't commercially wrapped
  • Discoloration
  • Choking hazards
  • Anything tampered with in anyway needs to be thrown out
  • Any holes found along the wrapper needs to be thrown out
  • Be aware of any bright colored pill shaped candy. It can be drugs shaped as candy which can be enough to kill a child...
  • Even gummy bears can be laced with marijuana...
Guys I'm not trying to scare you, I am just trying to show you how dangerous trick or treat candy can be. It is scary for parents and if some kids just eat something that wasn't made to be in the body, it could be potentially deadly. It is good be aware of everything around us in this day and age.. Also, I have included the FDA  website talking about the dangers on Halloween night.

Alright, thanks for reading guys. I hope everyone has a safe but fun Halloween. If you know of other tricks and tips for trick or treaters this year, go ahead and comment below. I would love to hear other things to help the sugar consumption and what to look out for this year. I look forward to seeing other ideas and don't forget to create some english.

  1. The organization of this blog entry is great! Also, perfect timing to write about this topic because it is only days before us parents have to keep all this information in mind. Maybe include where you got the information a little differently though. Thanks for the tips!
